My Beautiful Mommy

My Beautiful Mommy is a new book out by Dr. Michael Salzhauer discussing Mommy's plastic surgery. It's a helpful way to explain to Junior your new nose and bigger chest. Is anyone else concerned with this trend?

Salt Lake City was voted one of America's Vainest Cities by Forbes magazine this past year, for the sheer number of plastic surgeons living in the area. Are you surprised? You would think those honors would go to Los Angeles, New York or Miami. But no, it's us. Source

The most disturbing part of the growing number of plastic surgeries to me is that it sets the standard of 'beautiful' at a place that is unattainable without surgical augmentation. I love looking at women in their 70's, with their white hair, their glowing faces, even with their wrinkles. They are beautiful to me. If they have a happy glow about them, I always find myself hoping I will look joyful and classy like them when I reach that age.

I realize here in Utah we have a lot of babies. Babies have done things to my body that I would be mortified to show anyone. But to me there is a difference between some laser skin resurfacing to get rid of stretch marks or chloasma and getting a new nose or bigger chest (haven't we had the big chests enough between pregnancy and nursing!).

Maybe I'm out of line here, one of my friends has had her husband promise her she gets the cosmetic procedure of her choice after her last baby. That seems fair too. So Beautiful Mommies, what are your thoughts?

I have to remind myself when I go the gym that a lot of the girls I see there have probably had something done to them. It just isn't usually normal to be a size 0 from the chest down and a DD cup size. I personally think it is a very sad thing. We are setting a precedent that the way we are isn't good enough. That is so sad. Our bodies were created the way they are and we should be pround of them and keep them looking healthy but not surgically enhanced.

Well, as the mommy of 3 kids, 2 of which were twins (believe me, you DON"T want to see me naked. HEE HEE) my body has turned very saggy. I was mentioning this to a friend one day because exercise for me is NOT firming things up. She told me that she made a deal with her husband that she gets to have a "mommy makeover" when she is through having kids. She already looks fabulous and she's already gone through one pregnancy and is pregnant with her second. Anyhow, I think it is very sad that people would consider plastic surgery to get them looking perfect again. We live in a society where the normal, is not NORMAL anymore. With pornography on the internet and the magazine and movie stars with no flab at all (or so we think) people want to look perfect, but at what cost. I think as women, and especially mommies, we need to be proud of what our bodies are and just continue living as healthy as possible. We are ALL beautiful! =0)

You know, I think everyone wants to look good, but there are far better ways. If you need to enhance or take away to feel good, look deeper honey, because surgery won't change what's inside.
